’65 Love Affair (Paul Davis)
1982
#6 on the US Hot 100
Paul Davis had previously found success with I Go Crazy and Cool Night but ’65 Love Affair is his biggest hit. The song has a Hall and Oates blue-eyed soul sound to it – and the parent album Cool Night was his most successful. Davis wasn’t happy with the sound of the record though and split with his record company after promotion of the following single Love or Let Me Be Lonely. He would continue recording though and most notably achieved a #1 on the country charts in 1986 with You’re Still New To Me, a duet with Marie Osmond.
Fun fact: Davis had originally titled the song ’55 Love Affair but the title was aged to modernize it, targeting listeners who had been teenagers in 1965.

The theme for Bestest Song Club November 2015 is: US Top 10 Hits That You Probably Haven’t Heard In Years.
Criteria – Songs reached at least #10 on the US Hot 100 between 1 January 1980 and 31 December 1989 but have since largely been unheard.
