Boy From New York City (The Ad Libs)
Although it’s the Manhattan Transfer’s version that is now best known this song was originally recorded by New Jersey 1960s doo-wop group The Ad Libs. Their version hit #8 on the US Hot 100, a placing bested by the remake – the Manhattan Transfer took theirs to #7 in 1981. If you’re looking for yet another charting version of it check out the one done by English band Darts, which hit #2 in the UK in 1978.

And he’s cute in his Mohair suit
And he keeps his pockets full of spending loot

Fun fact: The Beach Boys wrote and recorded The Girl From New York City as a reply to the Ad Libs original.
