Don’t Tell Me Lies (Breathe)
1989
#10 on the US Hot 100
For a moment in the late 1980s it seemed as though Breathe were about to become the next UK band to achieve superstardom in the US with their debut album All That Jazz. Hitting #2 with Hands to Heaven and #3 with How Can I Fall? they then took Don’t Tell Me Lies to #10 (and #5 on the Adult Contemporary chart). Unfortunately this song would be their last major single and an album later they disappeared from the charts completely.
Fun fact: Don’t Tell Me Lies was initially released in the UK in 1986. It did not appear on original pressings of All That Jazz but was added to later printings.
