Grown-Up Christmas List (Amy Grant)
1992
This song was originally penned by David Foster and Linda Thompson-Jenner, first appearing on Foster’s 1990 non-Christmas album River of Love. In 1992, fresh off her pop breakthrough with Heart in Motion (which contained hits like Baby, Baby and Every Heartbeat) Amy Grant reworked the track slightly, adding some additional lyrics, and put it on her seasonal album Home for Christmas. Grown-Up Christmas List was released as the second single from that record and although not a hit its popularity did help the parent album reach #2 on the Billboard Hot 200, making it Grant’s best showing on that chart.
Fun fact: Here are the lyrics added by Grant:
As children we believed
The grandest sight to see
Was something lovely wrapped beneath the tree.
Well, heaven surely knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul.

The theme for Bestest Song Club December 2015 is: Bestest Modern Christmas Songs.
Criteria: Song must have been recorded no earlier than 1980.
