It Would Take a Strong Strong Man (Rick Astley)
1988
#10 on the US Hot 100
While Astley released the song Whenever You Need Somebody as a single in most of the world it was not so in the US and Canada. However, those territories did get It Would Take a Strong Strong Man and Astley took this song to #1 in Canada and #10 on the US pop charts. The song was another Stock Aiken Waterman (SAW) production and although Astley was dubbed a SAW “puppet” by the UK press he wrote many of his own songs, even on the debut album which this is from.
Fun fact: The B-side to It Would Take a Strong Strong Man is the Astley penned You Move Me.

The theme for Bestest Song Club November 2015: Top 10 Hits That You Probably Haven’t Heard In Years. Criteria – Songs that reached at least #10 on the US Hot 100 between 1 January 1980 and 31 December 1989 but tend to get overlooked in any “Best of the 1980s” lists and collections.
