Merry Christmas Everyone (Shakin’ Stevens)
Originally slated for release in 1984 Stevens smartly delayed this song a year to avoid the steamroller that was Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas (not to mention Last Christmas by WHAM!). As a result he secured the UK Christmas #1 spot in 1985 – fending off a reissued Do They Know It’s Christmas that was held out at #3 that year – Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You was sandwiched between them.   Stevens remade the song for charity in 2015 as Echoes of Merry Christmas Everyone, giving the song a bluegrass makeover.
Fun fact: Writer Bob Heatlie was responsible for other Stevens hits, including the #3 single Cry Just A Little Bit.

The theme for Bestest Song Club December 2015 is: Bestest Modern Christmas Songs.
Criteria: Song must have been recorded no earlier than 1980.
