New Romantics (Taylor Swift)
There was speculation that this track, which appears on the “deluxe” version of Swift’s 1989, would be the single to follow Bad Blood. Instead that honor went to Wildest Dreams (and then Out of the Woods). Given the continuing sales strength of the parent album fans of this track may still get their wish. It is definitely single-worthy and contains some of 1989’s neatest turns of phrase.

‘Cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me
And every day is like a battle
But every night with us is like a dream

Fun fact: 1989 is largely inspired by 1980s music and it’s been said this track’s name and sound evokes New Romanticism. It might be linked with the 1980s but that movement probably owes as much to the 1970s as it does the 80s.
